Deeper Learning Days
Overview
Deeper Learning Days are specially designed events held six times a year for both Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4) pupils. These days aim to enhance pupils' educational experiences by providing immersive, hands-on learning opportunities that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
Intent for Pupils
The primary intent of Deeper Learning Days is to:
-
Enhance Engagement - Provide pupils with stimulating activities that pique their interest and motivate them to learn.
-
Encourage Exploration - Allow pupils to explore subjects in depth, going beyond the standard curriculum to foster a love for learning.
-
Develop Skills - Focus on developing essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork, which are vital for personal and academic growth.
-
Support Personal Development - Promote self-awareness, resilience, and independence through challenging and enriching experiences.

Enriching Learning Experiences
Each Deeper Learning Day will feature a variety of activities centred around specific themes relevant to the curriculum and pupils' interests. These activities may include:
-
Workshops - Hands-on sessions led by external partners or teachers that delve into specific topics or skills.
-
Collaborative Projects - Group tasks that encourage teamwork and application of knowledge in real-world scenarios.
-
Keynote Speakers - Presentations from professionals and community members to inspire pupils and provide insights into different fields.
-
Trips - Visits to local organisations, museums, or businesses that relate to the day's theme, offering experiential learning opportunities.

KS4 Focus: NCC Level 2 Certificate
For KS4 pupils, the Deeper Learning Days are structured to align with the NCC Level 2 Certificate. Each theme explored will contribute to the competencies needed for the certificate, ensuring that pupils are not only enriching their learning experience but also working towards a recognised qualification. This approach helps pupils:
-
Understand the Relevance - See the practical applications of what they are learning and how it connects to future career paths.
-
Build a Portfolio - Gather evidence of their skills and experiences, which can be beneficial for further education or employment opportunities.

Impact
Deeper Learning Days provide a valuable opportunity for pupils in KS3 and KS4 to engage deeply with their education, develop key skills, and enhance their personal development in a supportive and dynamic environment. Through these experiences, pupils will be better prepared for academic success and future endeavours.

World Food Day - KS3

The intent behind teaching pupils about foods from around the world is to foster cultural appreciation and global awareness while promoting healthy eating habits and nutrition. This exploration encourages critical thinking about food-related issues such as sustainability and ethics, while also providing practical cooking skills that enhance confidence and creativity. Through collaborative activities, pupils develop teamwork and social skills, and the interdisciplinary nature of the subject integrates geography, history, and science, making learning more engaging and holistic. Ultimately, the goal is to create culturally literate individuals who value diversity and understand the broader context of food in society.
